Audition Repertoire (Video)
*Repertoire Update - Monday, August 21, 2023*
In consideration of the inclusion and importance of concerti in string study at the pre-college level, NYIMF will accept concerto repertoire in addition to solo repertoire for both strings and piano. Please keep in mind performance time limits in the final round when choosing repertoire.
Lower two competition levels: 5 minutes. Upper two competition levels: 10 minutes

2-3 pieces from major study methods such as: Royal Conservatory Celebration Series, ABRSM, or other method books.
Or…
2-3 pieces from the 4 major stylistic periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th/21st century.
* Entrants may submit pieces 1.) exclusively from method books, 2.) exclusively from direct repertoire, or 3.) a combination of the two categories outlined above for the total pieces as required by age category.*
Explorer & Junior - 2 contrasting pieces Senior & Collegiate - 3 contrasting pieces
Explorer (ages 5-10)
Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces corresponding to your level in method books such as Royal Conservatory Celebration Series, ABRSM, other method books, or pieces/movements from the four stylistic periods listed above corresponding to your level.
Video time limit: 15 minutes
Junior (ages 11-14)
Repertoire: 2 contrasting pieces corresponding to your level in method books such as Royal Conservatory Celebration Series, ABRSM, other method books, or pieces/movements from the four stylistic periods listed above corresponding to your level.
Video time limit: 20 minutes
Senior (ages 15-18)
Repertoire: 3 contrasting pieces corresponding to your level in method books such as Royal Conservatory Celebration Series, ABRSM, other method books, or pieces/movements from the four stylistic periods listed above corresponding to your level.
Video time limit: 25 minutes
Collegiate (ages 18-25)
Repertoire: 3 contrasting pieces corresponding to your level in method books such as Royal Conservatory Celebration Series, ABRSM, other method books, or pieces/movements from the four stylistic periods listed above corresponding to your level.
Video time limit: 30 minutes
* Pieces may be from both solo and concerto repertoire. *
Video Instructions

Pieces must be performed from memory.

Videos must be made in one continuous session. Cuts between pieces are allowed.

At the beginning, please introduce yourself by 1.) stating your full name 2.) age, and 3.) the pieces you will be performing.

Copy & Paste your Youtube or Vimeo video link on the Registration form.

Videos that substantially exceed the time limit will be disqualified.

Finalists for the live new York City round will be notified by Friday, October 6, 2023.
Final Recital/Competition Round Repertoire
Finalists will be given the opportunity to choose one of the pieces presented in the Audition Round video not to exceed 5 minutes in the Explorer and Junior levels, 10 minutes in the Senior and Collegiate levels.
Accompanist
Finalists may:
1.) Provide their own accompanist.
2.) An accompanist will be provided by NYIMF Competition as follows:
Novice & Apprentice Levels: Accompanist Fee: $45 to include a 30-minute rehearsal plus performance.
Young Artst & Master Levels: Accompanist Fee: $65 to include a 45-minute rehearsal plus performance.
