Round 1 Audition Repertoire (Video)

Due: Saturday, October 12

 

All age groups in the Voice Division may choose repertoire from the following sources:

 

               Opera, Concert Aria, Operetta, Art Song (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th & 21st Century),

Musical Theatre, American Songbook.

 

*Repertoire not allowed: Zarzuela, Rock, or other Rock-derivative compositions freestanding and outside of the "Musical Theatre" genre.

 

Explorer (ages 6-10)  

2 contrasting pieces that best demonstrates your level of artistic and technical mastery:

  • Opera, Concert Aria, Operetta, Art Song, Musical Theatre, and American Songbook selections may be sung either in the original language, or in English. Strophic, Da Capo/Dal Segno al Fine repeats are allowed.

Video time limit: 15 minutes

 

Young Artist (ages 11-18)  

3 contrasting pieces that best demonstrates your level of artistic and technical mastery:

  • Opera, Concert Aria, Operetta, Art Song, Muical Theatre, and American Songbook selections must be sung in the original language. Strophic, Da Capo/Dal Segno al Fine repeats are allowed.

Video time limit: 25 minutes

Collegiate (ages 18-26)

3 contrasting pieces that best demonstrates your level of artistic and technical mastery:

  • Opera, Concert Aria, Operetta, Art Song, Muical Theatre, and American Songbook selections must be sung in the original language. Strophic,Da Capo/Dal Segno al Fine repets are allowed.

Video time limit: 30 minutes

Round 1 Audition Video Instructions

  • Round 1 Audition videos are due Sunday, October 19.

  • Pieces must be performed from memory.

  • Round 1 Audition Videos must have been made no longer than 6 months prior to the Saturday, October 12 submission date.

  • Videos must be made in one session. Cuts between pieces are allowed. No cuts within the same piece allowed.

  • Live accompaniment is not required, but highly recommended. Pre-recorded accompaniment tracks are strictly forbidden.

  • Please use YouTube, Vimeo or other format. Copy & Paste your video URL link on the registration form provided. Double check that your YouTube or Vimeo video settings are set on either Public or Unlisted.

  • Videos that substantially exceed the time limit will be disqualified.

  • Time Limit: Explorer (6-10) 15 min., Young Artist (11-18) 25 min., Collegiate (18-26) 30 min.

  • Semi-Finalists chosen will receive acceptance notice and detailed instructions for Round 2 Semi-Finals on Tuesday, October 21 and must register for the Semi-Final Round by Friday, October 24.

Round 2: Semi- Final Live Video

  • Semi-Final Round will be conducted live via Google Meet or Zoom, Sunday, November 2.

  • Audition is performed online live with a Competition Adjudicator.

  • Semi-Finalists will perform 1 piece from the Round 1 Audition video. No additional repertoire allowed.

  • Piece must be performed from memory.

  • Live accompaniment is required.

  • Time Limit: Explorer (6-10) 10 min., Young Artist (11-18) 15 min., Collegiate (18-16) 15 min.

  • Finalists for the live New York City Round will be notified ​on Tuesday, November 4 and must register for the final round by Sunday, November 9.

 

Final Recital/Competition Round: NYC In-Person

  • Saturday, December 6,  2:30-5:30pm,   Bruno Walter Auditorium,   Lincoln Center - New York City

  • Finalists will be given the opportunity to choose one of the pieces presented in the Round 1 Audition Video.

  • No new repertoire or repertoire substitutions are allowed.

  • Time Limit: Explorer (6-10) 5 min., Young Artist (11-18) 8 min., Collegiate (18-16) 11 min.​ ( Performance time  limits strictly enforced.)

Accompanist

Finalists may:

1.) Provide their own accompanist. (Strongly recommended.)

2.) An accompanist can be provided by NYIMF Competition as follows:

Explorer & Young Artist Levels: Accompanist Fee: $45 to include a 30-minute rehearsal plus performance.

Young Artist & Master Level: Accompanist Fee: $65 to include a 30-minute rehearsal plus performance.

Finalists are responsible for all fees and rehearsal logistics arrangements for accompanists provided by NYIMF.

Competition Fees

Round 1 Audition & Registration Fee: Solo - $60   Chamber Ensemble - $40 per person

Round 2 Semi-Final Fee: Solo - $140   Chamber Ensemble - $80 per person 

Final Round Fee: Solo -  $320   Chamber Ensemble - $100 per person

*All Audition, Participation, and Accompanist Fees are non-refundable.

* Finalists for the Final New York City Round are responsible for all travel and accommodation expenses. *
